MiEX

What if your dream career is one you have never considered?

Mining Industry Experience Program

No mining experience or knowledge required — just curiosity.

Why It Matters:

Mining powers the modern world—from tech to transportation. The Mining Industry Experience Program (MiEX)  gives you insights that can shape decisions about your future.

MiEX is a paid, two-week learning program designed for first-year STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Math) students who want real world experience.

Learn from industry pros, tour real operations, discover career paths you didn't know existed.

Why MiEX?

  • Get Paid to Learn – Earn while gaining real-world mining experience.

  • Explore & Discover – Travel, step onto operational sites, and see where critical minerals and metals are unearthed.

  • Connect & Grow – Meet industry professionals and build a network that could launch your career.

What’s Covered?

While spending up to four days on an operational site:

  • ✈️  Flights to site — covered

  • 🍽️  Meals on site — covered

  • 🏨  Accommodation — covered

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

MiEX takes you beyond the classroom and into the real world. Over two weeks, you’ll get paid to explore the industry, visit actual sites, and connect with professionals who live it every day. It’s your chance to discover exciting career paths firsthand.

Nope. We're specifically looking for students who are curious but haven't made up their minds. Come with questions, not answers.

That's exactly who this program is for. MiEX is about exploration, not commitment. You might discover mining is your thing — or you might not. Either way, you'll learn something and get paid to do it.

Yes, this is a paid learning experience. You'll receive $2,000 for full participation in the two-week learning program.

Week 1 (hub sessions): You arrange your own transport, accommodation and meals for the learning hub days.

Week 2 (site visits): Everything covered — flights, accommodation, meals, personal, protective equipment.

When you apply, you’ll pick a learning hub location—Vancouver, Saskatoon, or Montreal—to kick off your MiEX adventure.

We're selecting 50 students from across Canada. We're looking for curiosity and openness more than experience or grades.

Yes. As a successful MiEX participant, you’ll spend up to four days on an actual company site, seeing the industry in action. You won’t be alone—chaperones and site coordinators will be with you every step of the way, and safety training will be provided.

Mining has more AI-resistant careers than almost any industry. We're not going to have robots repairing vehicles underground or managing tailings. If job security matters to you, mining is worth exploring.

While MiEX isn’t an accredited course, you’ll walk away with an official certificate of completion—a great way to show future employers you’ve got real-world experience and initiative.

Our application process is built to give equal opportunity to all. We want you to thrive and bring your unique perspective to the MiEX experience.

FAQs for Employer Partners

MiEX is an immersive two-week paid learning program that transforms students’ perceptions of the mining industry. First year post-secondary students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics gain direct exposure to the industry’s value chain, from exploration to final product. Participants learn directly from industry professionals and visit active operations, enabling them to make informed decisions about their academic and career pathways.

Employer partners both sponsor and participate in the MiEX program. They contribute funding and expertise to support the design, planning and delivery of the two-week experience that includes a mix of presentations, industry panels, site visits and interactive activities to encourage 1st year STEM students from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in mining.

One company representative to serve on the MiEX Steering Committee, providing oversight and strategic guidance throughout the program’s development, planning and execution.

One company representative to serve as a member to the MiEX Working Group to coordinate and facilitate the company’s active involvement in program design and delivery.

One Learning Hub Facilitator (this may be the Working Group member, provided they have facilitation experience and expertise)

One Site Chaperone (this may be the Working Group member)

Approximately five early-career professionals to serve as live event speakers or panelists, or in person subject matter experts supporting program activities and discussions.

The time commitment will vary depending on the phase of the project, with  most planning and coordination activities led by the Working Group.

Appointment to the Working Group will be a nine-month term from October 2026 to June 2027. Working group members activelyparticipate in biweekly meetings and complete tasks between meetings. Meetings transition to a weekly cadence closer to program delivery. Working Group members dedicated 100% of their time during the two-week MiEX experience. In addition, a two-day in-person planning session will be held in January.

Steering Committee members participate in approximately two to three meetings over the nine-month term, providing strategic oversight, guidance and support to Working Group members, particularly when internal challenges or barriers arise.

Working group members should be leaders with decision-making authority, strong coordination skills and a technical background or a solid understanding of mining operations.

Project management and organization skills are essential, along with the ability to engage subject matter experts effectively.

Members should be proactive, have leadership support and have capacity to dedicate time to actively participate in meetings and between session tasks (approximately four hours per week) with heavier involvement in the final month and full availability during the two program weeks.

Applications are managed by a talent acquisition agency, who conducts group interviews and prepares a shortlist of qualified candidates for final review and selection by the Working Group.

Contact Lindsay Kajiura to arrange a meeting about your organization's participation. Employer Partner Agreements for the May 2027 program delivery will be finalized by October 2, 2026.
